Session S

I’m a photographer, I like being behind the scenes. Being behind the camera is where my talent lies. Being in front of the camera, however, is not my strong suit nor am I that comfortable doing it. But I believe every photographer should be well rounded (or at least decently experienced) on both sides of the lens. So I took a dive and shot this set with Thomas. I’m perfectly comfortable being nude (I shoot lots of self portraits, which I will most definitely argue is far different than having someone else take your photo) so that wasn’t where the discomfort lied. The thing I had the most trouble with was actually facing myself in full form, confronting my self confidence levels. And I was also learning a lot about posing, how the body actually works with certain poses which I then applied to how I pose models, etc. Seeing and feeling it from both perspectives was why this shoot was extremely important to me... if I can’t pose well myself, how can I teach others to pose??? Feeling how my body interacts with the light in play was also extremely beneficial to me. I love light, and it’s good to know how it works on all sides. I think that, yes, I’d do this again, and practice for me is good. It was a really unique experience shooting with an especially talented photographer like Thomas, who I’ve also been friends with for a few years, and also who I had just met for the very first time in person! So there was a different dynamic at play here, making the photos and the shoot itself a more familiar and comfortable experience.
